Cambridge Trust

The Cambridge Trust, which works with partners worldwide to support outstanding students under a variety of scholarship schemes, awards around 500 scholarships annually, and supports more than 1200 students in residence each year.  During its history of over 30 years of offering scholarships at the University of Cambridge, the Trust has awarded more than 20,000 scholarships to students from around the world.

Gates Cambridge Trust

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship programme was established in October 2000 by a donation of US$210m from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to the University of Cambridge. The programme takes between 80 and 90 scholars each year who demonstrate outstanding intellectual ability, a commitment to improving the lives of others and leadership potential. The programme takes Masters and PhD students from any country outside the UK.

Harding Distinguished Postgraduate Scholarships

The Harding Distinguished Postgraduate Scholars Programme was established in February 2019 thanks to a generous donation from the David and Claudia Harding Foundation. These fully funded Scholarships are available to talented PhD students in any discipline, from all parts of the UK and the world. The programme takes around 25 scholars per year.

Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program

For Master's students from the African continent

The prestigious Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Cambridge was established in 2022 as a collaboration between the University and the Mastercard Foundation.  Over 500 Scholars from the African continent will be enrolled in the program between 2023 and 2030 to undertake a wide range of Masters courses. 

The Scholarship program  would provide bright students from under-represented communities in Africa with a fully funded opportunity to complete their Master's training, develop transformative leadership skills and contribute to climate resilience and sustainable futures in Africa. Ultimately, the mission of the  Mastercard foundation Scholars program at the University of Cambridge  is to contribute to the development of a transformative network of young people, critical to driving sustainable change.
