The UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is a public body which works in partnership with universities, research organisations, businesses, charities, and government in support of research and innovation. Each of the seven Research Councils funds research and training activities in a different area and together they provide funding for around 30,000 researchers, including 15,500 doctoral students in UK universities and in their own Research Institutes, a number of which are members of the Postgraduate School of Life Sciences.
Three of the Research Councils provide funding to support research in the Life Sciences at the University of Cambridge:
- Biotechnology & Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC)
- Medical Research Council (MRC)
- Natural Environment Research Council (NERC)
